OUR STAFF

OUR CHARITY

In previous years the generosity of our attendees has raised over $15,000 for local animal charities at our charity auctions, performances and the charity boxes. It's with pride and a lifted heart are we honored to welcome back The Animal Welfare League of Queensland as our Charity of 2015.
The AWLQ takes care of and rehomes up to 15,000 strayed, surrendered and homeless animals each year, overseeing care for over 700 at a time. They do this with no government funding whatsoever, relying on individuals, businesses and communities like ours to keep the lights on, the cats purring and the dogs barking at their own shadows.
In their history, they have successfully adoped over 100,000 animals. With rehoming centres in Brisbane, Ipswich, Beenleigh and on The Gold Coast, the AWLQ is a worthy, local and engaging community based charity. Any items donated to or purchased from the Charity Auction, will this year help to provide:
- Clean, warm bedding and daily care, as well as exercise and enrichment programs.
- Veterinary services including medicines and veterinary carer for sick and injured animals.
- Rehoming opportunities for thousands of homeless animals.
- Maintenance and improvements to sheltering to provide for a better life for animals in their care.
They also have a gosh darn Live Kitty Cam. Did we mention they have a Kitty Cam? They have a Kitty Cam.

A. When booking with the FurDU discount, the hotel will charge the full amount for your stay within 24 hours.
Q. I can't afford to pay for the hotel in full, is there any way I can book so I don't miss out?
A. Sure is! Contact the hotel directly and let them know you are with FurDU. They’ll see what they can arrange for you!
Q. Is the hotel booking refundable?
A. A full refund is offered by the outrigger as long as you cancel at least 48 hours before the check in date.
Q. Do I need to stay at the hotel to attend FurDU?
A. Not at all! Whilst staying at the hotel can enhance your convention experience, it is not required to attend. This can be extremely useful for local furs attending on a tight budget or people who want to sort out their own accommodation needs. Please keep in mind that for everyone’s safety, the Outrigger will only allow re-entry to the hotel (and thus convention space) to the general public up until 10:30pm.
Q. I didn't stay at the hotel, can I leave all my crap with the hotel/con staff?

TRADE
Q. How do I get a table to trade at FurDU?
A. Follow the instructions here.
Q. How much is a trade table at FurDU?
A. $10 for a full table. This is to be paid before your table is secured.
Q. Can I share a table?
A. Of course! However the table must still be booked following the same guidelines with a single $10 payment.
Q. What hours will the den be open?
A. Generally we plan to open Saturday between 11AM and 5PM and Sunday between 11AM and 4:30PM, with half an hour for pack down to follow. These hours may change slightly closer to the convention date, depending on other scheduling, so check back a few weeks before to be sure!
Q. When can dealers check-in and set up at the convention?
A. We will be opening the dealers area exclusively to dealers one hour before attendees, to allow ample time for setting up and settling in.
Q. Do I have to register for FurDU if I only plan to be a dealer?
A. We've charged as little as possible for dealer's table registration to allow those who come to showcase their wares to take home as much of the profits as possible. For you to take advantage of this, we do require that you be registered for FurDU first.
Q. What can I do if I miss out on a dealer's table? Is there a waiting list?
A. We'll keep a list of dealers after spaces fill up. In our experience however, we rarely see vacancies open up. It's best to get in early to be sure of a place.
Q. I'm not an artist. Can I still deal in the Dealers' Den?
A. Naturally! We do ask that content being sold be relevant to the fandom however. We have authors and musicians as well as resellers for numerous furry knicknacks come along each year.
Q. I'll need to charge my phone during the day. Can I ask for power at my table?
A. The number and location of wall sockets is very limited, and as such we need to reserve it for people with printers and other devices that necessitate power. It's important that you not request power if you don't absolutely need it, to ensure our volunteer staff are able to get the den organised without their fur falling out due to stress.
Q. I'd like to sit next to friends, or the door, or away from the door, or on the ceiling please.
A. Arrangement of the den becomes complicated quickly and often has to be changed several times. We do everything we can to accomodate everyone, however this comes at a cost of not being able to grant special requests.
Q. Can I keep my stuff in the Den overnight? Pls?
A. You can, however you do so at your own risk. We'll be locking up the den in the evening after the den closes and nobody including yourself will have access to it until it opens again in the morning. Keep in mind that you'll only be able to keep your goods there once you've set up on the first day that the den is open.
Q. I have a heck of a lot of stuff to sell. Can I book two tables instead of one?
A. If you'd like to book two tables, we'll put you on a waiting list. Provided there's space once everyone who wants to deal has applied, you'll then be able to book an extra table for an extra $10.
Q. What kind of guidelines do i need to follow?
A. We've provided a set of guidelines in the dealers information here.
GETTING INVOLVED
Q. I'd like to put something in the Charity Art Show. How do I do this?
A. Contact us! We are eternally grateful for the generosity the community shows every year.
Q. I want to participate in the fursuit dance comp! How do I get in on that?
A. Sweet! We'll let you know more about this and how to apply once we've finalised our schedule.
Q. I'd like to DJ at the convention. How, when and where do I apply?
A. Fantasic! We'll be putting out information on this and doing a call out in once scheduling is finalised.
Q. How do I volunteer?
A. Check out the volunteering page for more information on this, or get in touch with Foxy Malone at volunteers@furdu.com for more info.
Q. I'm kind of new to the fandom. What if I don't know anyone at the convention?
A. Furries are a pretty friendly bunch, especially come convention time! Try introducing yourself during one of the participatory events, or attend the Icebreakers panel (its fun!) to put yourself a little more at ease around a new crowd. We have a facebook group that gets pretty active around convention time and the furstralia forums are a good place to say hello if you're not the facebook type. Volunteering to help out can also be a great way to meet new people and get a grasp of what goes on. With a little effort you'll find yourself making new fuzzy friends in no time. :3
Q. Is the area outside the convention space safe for fursuiting by myself or in a small group?
A. As a general rule for most places its best not to go fursuiting by yourself. Best practice is to have a handler there for the sake of explaining things to the public, who can find the spectacle confusing and might react strangely. Groups are better still. Be mindful that the nearby area of Caville Avenue is in fact private property, and given that performers in this area pay a fee to be able to perform in the street there, you may be asked to move on so as not to distract from people trying to make a living. The beach is nicer anyway. ;) Give that a go.
Q. I don't want to be photographed or recorded. How do I avoid this?
A. If you do not want to be filmed/photographed please make an effort to inform those with a camera. If something is being filmed or a group photo is being taken use common sense and move out of shot. If you feel like you have been photographed, politely ask the individual to remove the photo of you. Any additional trouble, please contact convention staff.
Q. I've received threats from (an ex lover, a crazy, Drake again) or have reason not to want them near me at the con. Can you keep them out for me?
A. The safety of our patrons is a primary concern to us and we will do all we can to ensure everyone attending the convention is comfortable. Threats are a serious matter and although we are limited in what we can do, we will refer you onto the proper authorities.
Q. I want to contribute more! Can I donate to the convention?
A. FurDU prefers not to take donations, and instead offers the sponsor upgrade option as a way for the community to help support us, while receiving something in return. We're always keen on volunteers though!
CODE OF CONDUCT
REGISTRATION
Starting from 2014 FurDU is an 18+ convention meaning that no minors can attend unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents/Guardians attending the convention will also have to register for the duration that they will be at the convention. Appropriate ID is to be shown to complete your registration and acquire your con badge. Please be prepared to show your badge any time you need access to convention space or events - it identifies you as a fully-paid attendee of the convention.
BEHAVIOUR
We hope that each attendee enjoys the fun that our wide-ranging community can provide, but please consider how your actions reflect on the convention and how this may impact or affect others. FurDU likes to present itself as a professional convention and to this effect, if FurDU becomes aware of any of our attendees engaging in illegal activities, either in convention space or in private hotel rooms, we will be forced to take action and inform the proper authorities.
Keep in mind that there are always other guests of the hotel, especially in the lobby area. We encourage that courtesy from all participants in our community. Safety and security matters are the responsibility of the individual. It is expected that you behave in a way that is safe for you and those around you at all times. Anyone who puts themselves or anyone else in danger will be asked to leave. Whilst FurDU will do all it can to ensure your safety, FurDU is not responsible for any harm done to yourself or others. If you feel there is a security or safety threat that has not been addressed, please notify the staff immediately.
Use your common sense in public areas. If you have to ask or think twice about doing something in public, don't do it! For example; kissing and holding hands regardless of sexual orientation are fine. Groping, tongue battles and nudity regardless of sexual orientation are not. While collars and leashes may be worn discreetly, blatant displays of bondage or BDSM in public are not acceptable. We ask you to always wear at least a shirt, shorts and appropriate footwear in the public areas of the hotel.
No means no! Stop means stop! Go away means go away! If someone won't understand these simple rules, contact a member of staff. Harassment of any type will not be tolerated. This includes; Unwanted physical contact, following someone in a public area without a legitimate reason or threatening physical violence. An offender may lose their badge and if it calls for it the matter may be referred to the proper law enforcement authorities.
Due to the potential damage to property, water guns, silly string and the like are prohibited in all areas of the hotel or convention space. Any vandalism of FurDU, an attendee or the hotel's property will not be tolerated. FurDU requests that patrons treat all property with respect, security and care. FurDU is not liable for any property that is lost, damaged or stolen.
DEALERS' TABLES
It's the responsibility of the seller to ensure all adult related material is appropriately censored and not sold to minors. The seller must also ensure all of their cash and goods are looked after and stored in a safe location at all times. FurDU and the hotel take not liability for the loss of merchandise or money.
DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
FurDU has a zero tolerance policy on illicit drugs and underage drinking. If you are hosting a room party it is your own responsibility to ensure that minors are not in the possession of alcohol. FurDU encourages responsible drinking and you should too, try not to drink too much in one night to avoid a nasty hangover. If you feel that someone is doing something wrong don't hesitate to contact the con staff.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING
When photographing or videotaping individuals or costumes, please use common courtesy and ask beforehand. Please respect their rights if they do not wish to be on camera. If someone asks or otherwise indicates make the best effort possible to keep them out of shot.
On the flip side if you do not want to be filmed/photographed please make an effort to inform those with a camera. If something is being filmed or a group photo is being taken use common sense and move out of shot. Attendees should be aware that footage gathered by staff members in public areas of the convention including events and panels, maybe used in a highlights take and that they may appear in that tape without prior approval. FurDU reserves the right to use any film or video taken at the convention for non profit promotion of future FurDU conventions without permission.
GHOSTING
FurDU has a zero tolerance policy on ghosting. If you are caught trying to or attending an event without your own legitimate badge you will be banned from attending another FurDU convention indefinitely. Anyone caught sharing a badge with someone else will have their badge removed and face simular consequences.
Any further attempts to attend an event after your badge has been taken will result in the proper authorities being contacted and a permanent ban from any FurDU convention hereinafter.
By registering for FurDU you agree that you will abide by the code of conduct as stated above. FurDU reserves the right to remove any attendee from the convention for any reason. This policy is subject to change at any time.
